I was on MC today. After taking the meds and a 1 hour sleep on the couch, I carved. I'd probably move like a drunken sailor on my foot so, its better for me to sit down with minimal movements. So I carved. I meant to carve a slow loris (guess who put the idea into my head... haha) but maybe it does look like a racoon.
Photo Description:
My tools; Craft knife, v-gouge, u-gouge, erasers. I chose the right-most eraser this time (3cm x 4cm)
Sketched a slow loris on a normal white paper (didnt have the tracing paper with me at the time)
Transfered the image onto the eraser; put the image face down onto the eraser and scratch the back thoroughly with a pencil.
The sketched image and the eraser with the mirrorred image transferred on the surface.
This is basically to show the length of the knife's blade.
Note the angle of the blade and only the tip sunks into the eraser. Always angle your blade outwards so that the ridges (the areas intended to remain intact) will be strong. Make the cut along the image line, outwards away from the image ok. Then sink the tip of your blade from the opposite side to make a trench ( V ) as shown in the girl image below.
Carefully stab the eraser on the side to remove excess rubber. Stab and run it only upto where the edge of the previous outward cut was made from the top of the surface. The V trench will make you see the edge easier.
The excess rubber has been removed.
Another take on the angle of the carved ridges.
Edited: After step 6, please refer to the photo below.
Sink the tip of your blade from the opposite side to make a'trench' (V)
As for after step 9, I forgot to take pictures. I used all three blades (craft knife, v-gouge,u-gouge) to remove the inner excess on the image.
